| December 10, 2006 | Matthew 3:16-17
What is the meaning of life? Now I am not going to tell you I know the meaning of life, as no one really can, but let's just hypothesize.
Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus when he was baptized , went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him; 17 and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. ASV
It would seem from this passage, that the meaning of life could be borne out of water. I remember when I take long baths that the water somehow transforms my thinking and I start thinking of new ways in which to save the lives of others or enrich their lives in some way. It is as if the water inspired me.
I have read many different references that say, depending on who you believe, that the human body is made up of about 95% water. So it would seem that water could possibly make up 95% of the meaning of life.
So where do we take it from here? When was the last time you thought of something that was water related? When you really think about it, I would assume that every day, you think about water in one way or another.
Luke 7:44 And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath wetted my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. ASV
If you started thinking, right now, of the meaning of life, you would probably think of something, dismiss it, and think of another, and then you would get bogged down in your experiences, and finally, an hour later, you would might be even more confused than when you started.
But what if you thought about the same topic while taking a bath? You may come up with a different answer, or would you?
Anyway, lets' just admit to ourselves that the meaning of life is unattainable in our thinking. Some would then say, let's just go with the flow. The flow of what, water?
But seriously. Life has meaning. Life is what you make of it. Life depends on your free will. God gave us free will, but yet so many people will blame God for bad things that happen to them.
Think about it. Some person we will call Josephine says, "How could God have let my sons death happen as a result of that drunk driver" (fictitious, any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental). Did God put the drink in the drivers hands and force that person to get into a car and drive? Of course not, so nobody can blame God for the stupidities of the human race, any more than I could say that I know the meaning of life, which of course I do not. So why not blame the drunk driver who acted very irresponsibly and caused this problem.
Do not blame God. Do not take the present of life that he has given you to blame Him for your own misguidance or the stupor that the human race sometimes get itself into. But then it is so easy to blame God. Some people even go so far as to say they do not believe in God, because why would think, "Why did God let this happen?" But yet if He gave us free will, we can't ask that question. We can only pray for an answer.
So the meaning to life comes from God, because He knows it. So instead of passing the blame to Him, seek the answers from your own common sense and your beliefs and your answers to prayer.
Some people would have us believe that there is no meaning to life, and we just are. We are like the breeze, they may say, blowing until the leaves of our mind come to rest and wither and turn to dust.
I would like to think that life has more meaning than that. Otherwise our lives do not account for anything, and how sad is that? We can travel through life on a breeze, or we can take a bath and have revelations which make sense at first, but then later we think, maybe not.
Whatever you may think, why not just pray and see what comes up. It could be another piece to the puzzle of life. It could give you an idea of what life is all about. And you may be the better for it.
Prayer: Dear Lord, when I start contemplating the meaning of life, please enlighten me in some way. Give me an understanding or insight into what I need to do to understand my place in society. Give me your guidance. But most of all give that enlightenment to others as well. Thank you for all your many blessings. Amen.
Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
