Food For Thought
  July 3, 2005 | Luke 12:23-24

So what's going on in your life? Are you happy? Is someone jerking your chain or do you feel safe in the knowledge that you are going in the right direction? No matter what is going on in your life right now, you need God.

Oh come on, you do too! Everybody does. Without Him we are like chaff in the wind. We are like a dog unable to bark or find a good fire hydrant. We are like a leaf that has been long from the tree and is slowly drying up on the dust of the earth.

They say you are what you eat. So if that is the case, I am a cross between a waffle and a bowl of applesauce. At least that's what I had for breakfast. A good breakfast that I have repeatedly had for many years. Just like if you have had a lasting relationship with God, you have been served a righteous bowl of love and have nourished your soul for a long time now.

But what if you haven't? What if you have been caught in life's tragedies and the desires of the world? Then your goose could be cooked. But maybe not yet. So before you become medium rare, instead get a little pickled and let God give you libation.

Genesis 1:29 And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food." NKJV

That is definitely food for thought. So instead of just bringing home the bacon, bring home a sense of Gods love.

How do you do that you ask? By trying all the tasty morsels of Gods guidance and making His word like chocolate. Make it a yummy addition to the soul. Make it soul food. Eat of it heartily and give all the extras that God pours out to others to help the world from going hungry.

Enough about food. You are now sighing relief. No more food puns. Yay!!

What is it about men that make them waver from a relationship with God. And no ladies, I am not leaving you out. I am using the word "men" to be all encompassing. Now what makes men wafer. Whoops, you caught me. I mean why do we see ourselves as not what we want in our lives.

But there is another thing to take into account here is that no matter how much we waver, God is always there to pick-up the leftovers ;-) and bring us back to some semblance of order in our lives and all we have to do is ask Him for His help.

Luke 12:23-24 Life is more than food , and the body is more than clothing. 24 Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? NKJV

Sometimes our brains resemble spaghetti (I know, I just can't help myself) and we often loose a noodle or two. I guess you could say that life is all in the sauce.

There are so many ingredients in the sauce. But if we have the right mixture it is the difference between an excellent spaghetti dinner and one that is bland and :-(

But what is the greatest food of all? It is Gods Word. In it's pages hold the secrets of the world. It talks of peace as well as love. It is ridden with hardships and good times. And we have only to soak up this wondrous gift and make ourselves to understand His words if only we will take the time to listen to what God has to say.

We can choose to live a life of gluttony of the heart in the indulgences of the world or we can feast on the Word. We can seek Gods guidance at any time, and He will hear our words. What a blessing that is.

So instead of wallowing in self-pity and self-doubt, instead look to God and seek Him through prayer and you will be blessed in many ways. And don't forget to thank Him for his assistance in life.

Prayer: Dear Lord, sometimes we do not always pray when we should because we may be blind to the love that you give us every day. Open our eyes Lord, and give us peace. Lord, I thank you for all your many blessings. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
