Let God Be Your Speeding Locomotive To Enlightenment
  June 26, 2005 | 1 Corinthians 9:22-23

What is going on here? I am starting to write more and more sermons. I stopped for a while and I find myself trying to catch up. You see I stopped writing sermons for over two months because I found myself not being able to write. My inspiration had gone out of these fingers and I felt like I had hit a brick wall. I couldn't write another sermon.

I have not gotten any feedback for my sermons for over two years now. Sometimes I wonder if people even care to read them. I often thought that if even one person sent a "Thanks" for the sermon, I would continue to write.

So in other words one person can make a difference. One person would have made me want to write more sermons, but none did. This was discouraging. But for some reason I have felt a extreme need to start writing again and have written four sermons in the last 18 hours.

What was my inspiration you ask. Of all things it was a movie. A very evil looking movie. A movie called, "Constantine". It was about a man who wanted redemption and was pulling out all the stops and facing evil of many kinds looking for that redemption.

So I decided to pull out all the stops and I am trying to write 10 sermons, this one being the fifth. I am feeling a new found wealth of ideas flowing through these fingers of mine.

Now it may be that I will not get anymore feedback again, but I am going to keep trying. Maybe somebody who really cares will read them and find the love of God in them.

That is what I write about the love and hope that God can give if you will only ask for it. You can get it. You can feel good again, especially if grief has stricken you over the last year and you just want to feel that there is hope.

We can choose to wallow in self-pity or we can rise above ourselves and try to be the kinds of people that God wants us to be. We can see the light. We can feel the grace of God in our lives no matter how down we feel right now. You may feel like you have hit rock bottom in your quest through life. You may be bereft of hope.

1 Corinthians 2:7-8 But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. RSV

But I am here to tell you that God's love is there for the taking. He can care, but we have to care to pray to Him and ask for help and guidance. We have to make the forward motion of thinking on God and what improvements He can make on our lives. We can seek His guidance whenever we want to. That is the real beauty of a relationship with God. He can make a difference.

But effort is needed. We can feel sorry for ourselves or we can smile. We can make our lives hit rock bottom or we can blossom into something else with God's help.

1 Corinthians 9:22-23 To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. RSV

In order for us to feel useful again, we need to ask God for His help in determining what we can do to make this world a better place. A place where children can grow in the knowledge that there are others that try to add hope to their lives in enlightening ways.

Let's not ever give up hope. Let us not fall into the trap of loneliness when we can peel ourselves off the pavement of life and shake our lives up a bit. Shake it so that the cobwebs that permeate our minds can fall away, producing a daily thought process that is full of God's love.

God is everywhere, God is good. God is all loving. God can give hope. God can see the strife of people and God can heal. So doesn't it make sense that a lasting relationship with Him would be the most fruitful experience that has ever permeated our lives.

Let God be a part of your life. Let the new experiences of a God-filled life enrich you in exciting ways. And don't forget to thank God for all that He has given you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Help me to understand what you want for me in my life. Help me to be enriched with your presence, and give me the insight to spread that love to others that really need to know that your love can be so easily gotten if only to pray and ask for it. Thank you, LOrd for all your many blessings. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.

Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
