March 20, 2005 | Deuteronomy 31:13
Wake up fool! I mean really. People these days wonder why certain things happen in their lives and they don't even realize where and what the solutions are. Sometimes we can be so blinded by our own shortsightedness, if your will pardon the pun, we do not realize that what we have been doing in our lives can have dire consequences.
I hear so much about parents these day that have health problems with their kids. These kids are beset with attention deficit disorders, or they have other problems in school. But yet if you looked at their diets you would think that they thought that pizza fell into all the important food groups. There is soda pop, and candy and all sorts of juicy sugary substances that they fill their kids full of and they wonder why their child is not more healthy.
In life, if you fill yourself full of crap, you better not expect to get anymore than crap back. I realize it is easier to get a kid to eat junk food, such as double cheeseburgers with fries and a soft drink. But what is that kind of junk food doing to them? Really think about that.
1 Timothy 5:4 "But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God." NKJV
I also realize that is hard to get a kid to eat his vegetables and fruit. But what are the alternative? Do you let your kids be finicky all the time or do you discipline their eating habits so you can have healthy adults later on.
It all boils down to cause and effect. There is a cause and their is an effect. But yet parents are jumping through hoops to treat the effects without realizing that the cause is much more important.
If you read the Bible and pray every day, God will enrich your life. But if you don't fellowship with God, you may very easily fall through the cracks of life and be swallowed up by evil thoughts and persuasions.
Why is it so hard for people to seek God? Sometimes I think it is because they take the easy way out. Reading the Bible requires work or some type of effort as well as discipline. These two words or concepts really trip people up. They don't realize the rewards that God can give them because they do not have the time to find out what a lasting relationship with God will give them on a daily basis.
So what do they do? They keep making the same mistakes over and over again. They also tend to make the same mistakes with their kids over and over again.
Deuteronomy 31:13 "and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess." NKJV
I realize that in this day and age when both the mother and father work, that they both get home from work too tired to make efforts to make sure their kids are eating well. With some parents the kid goes to the father to help him with his homework. The father says that he doesn't understand it and asks his son to take it to his mother. The boy then goes to his mother and she doesn't understand it and tells him to take it to his father. The boy tells of what his father said, and the mother looks kind of goofy as she fumbles around for just the right thing to say.
Does this sound familiar? I am not saying that raising kids is easy. I am not saying that taking a few extra minutes a day with your child will move mountains. But with every little step and every little effort to improve your child's life you will be one step closer to giving them a more loving and fulfilling life.
Life is too short to let distractions take you away from your child's education. And a child's education is not limited to what they learn in school. It is also extended to the home as well. Just think of how much happy your child will be if he or she has a lasting relationship with God.
Because if a child can spend more time with the Lord in prayer and reading the Bible, they will be more enriched and loved and cared for and feel that they are loved not only by their parents, but also by God and reap many rewards that are too infinitesimal to count.
So don't let your children be in a group of other kids that are swimming with sharks. Instead open up to them a whole new world with God at the center, so that your children will grow up with so much love and understanding.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to give my children the love they need. The discipline to understand how the world works, and most of all the conviction to follow Gods word in their daily lives for years to come. And Lord, thank you for all the many blessings that you have given me. Amen.
Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
