Was That Tree There Before?
October 10, 2004 | Link To Us | Index | This sermon is for your spiritual edification and to spread a little hope and cheer. Deuteronomy 4:32-40 Have you ever driven down the road and you noticed, like a thousand times during rush hour, that there is no tree at a particular point, and this one time you notice the tree there? You look at it as if you have never seen it before. You feel like it is a new experience. Then as you drive farther down the road it finally dawns on you that that tree has always been there when you drove past it a thousand times? It reminds me of the old saying, "Take time to smell the roses." Sometimes we take certain scenes in our life for granted, not really seeing what is actually there. Why does this happen? It is because our lives become so clouded with the rigors of every day life and we begin to wonder why we are doing the things we are doing? We get so caught up in the daily routine that we don't see what is right in front of us. Recently I purchase a book entitled, "College Physics." I bought it thinking I could learn physics on my own without a classroom structure. I am finding it hard to do this task. I purchased a "Students Solutions Manual" for the physics book which helps some. The math for physics is rather mind-boggling, but the general text is fascinating as I am starting to learn why things happen in this world and it has given me a new light into the workings of nature. The things in this world that I took for granted, I am beginning to understand better. Now I am not suggesting that everybody run out and purchase a college physics book. But just start to learn more about the world around you. Another thing you can do, if you haven't already is start to get a newspaper subscription. Through the newspaper you can find out about the word with world affairs, politics, sports, and the daily goings on around you. It gives another fresh light into the workings of your country and the rest of the world. So know matter how old you are there is always something in this world that you didn't know before. So rather that taking the world for granted, learn more about it. The Bible is another great way to get to know the world. Being the number one best-seller though out time makes you marvel at the words that it gives you. The Bible may not appear on the best-sellers list, but it has sold more copies than any other book known to mankind. That statistic alone should be enough for you to want to read from it's pages every day and marvel at the miracles that are written down in its pages. Also prayer can help you find the hidden treasures that life can give us every day if we ask God for them. And I am not talking about monetary items, I am talking about the wonders of nature that God can point out to you if you only ask Him. Not point as in God using a hand to point things out, but in a non-literal sense of the emotions that we create in our own minds as we travel along life's road finding one new discovery after the other that is new to us. God gave us so much and we need to also thank Him for these discoveries at the same time we ask for new ones. So in a way, God can be our college physics book, giving us fresh new insights into the world around us. Prayer: Thank you, Lord for all the wonders of this world and the people that either make these things happen or see them for the first time. Let the treasures of life come forth into our minds eye. Give us more insight and help us to appreciate this wonderful creation for yours known as Earth. Thank you for all your many blessings. Amen. Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
