May 9, 2004 | Link To Us | Index | This sermon is for your spiritual edification and to spread a little hope and cheer. 1 Samuel 21:12-15

Here I sit in my home office writing this sermon and being in Southern California right now, the sun is shining bright outside with blue skies and the temperature is in the low 70's outside. So why am I writing this sermon when the day is so beautiful outside? I could purchase a laptop and write this sermon outside, but that is beside the point I would like to make here.

We all have the potential to have sunny days every day. Oh, it could be quite cloudy outside, but our thoughts could be sunny and full of life. We could have this sunny disposition through a relationship with God.

But what if we are still thinking about the sunny day outside and we are stuck inside for whatever reason? We can still have that sunny disposition because God is not just outside, He is all around us at any given moment waiting to enter into our hearts to give us His love and guidance.

God is every where. So why are you so stressed out right now? Is it because of a failed marriage? Or maybe a major move to another part of the country, or even to another country? Or are you having a lot of problems that seem insurmountable and you are waiting for some bath oil to take you away?

Whatever the reason for your stress, God is waiting for you to call on His name so that He can help you eliminate the stress and give you an insight into how life could be if you prayed to Him more often asking for His guidance and love.

No I realize that your daily scheduler is full and you can't possibly fit another minute, much less an hour to do anything, so that gives you no time at all to be with God in prayer. But what is all this hurrying around in life like your pants are on fire really giving you and what are you trying to accomplish?

You want something. The reason for your "Fire Insanity" is to do what? By fire insanity I mean running around like your pants are on fire with no other reason in your mind but to acquire another materialistic bauble and the insanity that your life is fraught with in trying to accomplish that endeavour.

But what do you really want? Do want the fancy sports car or the extreme luxury car that gives others the thought that you have made it and you are really something? You might ask somebody if they feel truly happy because of having a better car? They may say yes, though, because they want to try to make themselves believe that the car is making them happier. When in actuality their next endeavour is to have an even better car, and a more expensive house. So they have their fire insanity in order to get the higher rung in society.

But for what? To impress others? Why is there such a need in society to impress others when you would be a lot happier trying to impress yourself. Ah, now here is the thought process you should have. Try to impress yourself. Forgetting about a better car and a more expensive place of residence, what would make you truly happy? No, forget about jewelry. Forget about a second home in the mountains, what would make you truly happy. Materialistic accomplishments only give you a temporary satisfaction and then you want more. So what is it that you truly want?

You may not know the answer to that question. In fact, I am guessing here that you have no idea what you really want. You have been bombarded by all the television and magazine advertising that has made you think that you have to have this or that with really no understanding of what kind of happiness this or that will give you. Quite often in advertising you are shown something that goes beyond what you actually get and you end up with a car that you really didn't want because it didn't satisfy for you the reason for getting the car in the first place. Then you are left with this knot in your stomach and a feeling like getting on the merry-go-round of life trying to make enough to get that better car.

But satisfaction does not come with a better car. It doesn't come from a more expensive house. It comes from within. There are needs within yourself right now and the only way to truly understand those needs is with a lasting relationship with God. He can give you the insight and the guidance to help you forge a path to happiness that goes beyond whatever happiness you could gain from expensive baubles. He can give your life a certain feeling of warmth and peace and love that no bauble, no matter how expensive, could give you.

You can really read what I have written so far or you can continue through life making more money and never really finding the true happiness you are seeking. You can continue to have the fire insanity or you can say out loud, "Stop!" and start thinking about how you can make your life better though a lasting relationship with God.

So stop the fire insanity and look deep into your heart right now and ask God to come into it. Let Him guide you every day and see where He takes you. It will be the best decision you ever made.

Prayer: Dear Lord, sometimes life is fraught with danger and sometimes just plain greed. Give me the guidance to avoid both of these. Help guide me in this coming week to seek your love and your understanding. Thank you for coming into my heart. Help me to remember to wish my Mother a Happy Mothers Day. And thank you for all your many blessings. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.

Hi, my name is Bryan, a messenger of hope who would love to hear from you. God Bless.
