God's Resources
April 18, 2004 | Link To Us | Index | This sermon is for your spiritual edification and to spread a little hope and cheer. Psalms 119:145-149 The wonderful thing about God's creation is that he gave us many plants that have healing qualities. I heard people say their doctors tell them that taking herbs may give them side effects. But yet you should see the side effects that have been written about prescription drugs. God gave us a tremendous gift with his creation of this planet. I read somewhere that only about 300 herbs have been used for medicinal purposes even though there are about 200,000 herbs classified. That means that there may be cures out there that we may not even know about. Just imagine if there was a cure for cancer, or AIDS or some other ailment that is severe. Now also imagine that God may have something that might help a lot to cure that ailment. Now I am not saying there actually is a cure for cancer, or AIDS or some other ailment that is severe, but just imagine if there were. That is the truly wonderful thing about God's resources. His creation is like a gift to us. There are a lot of resources though that have been used up to a great extent and have caused problems like strip mining and the taking of many hundreds of thousands of trees cut down just so people can make junk mail that most of us probably throw away without even looking through. That is the real bummer about life, resources can be used for good and they can be used in a very wasteful manner. Just imagine all the trees that have given their life so that our mailboxes can be filled with a bunch of ads that we may not care about and end up throwing away. Is that the legacy that we are giving our kids? Dumps full of unwanted paper goods that never really had worth to the recipients? But you wonder what to do about it. You think about how one person can make a difference. You wonder what could I possibly do to make sure my children don't end up in a treeless world. You can help by praying to God for answers and then listening to what He has to say. Give Him your time and He will reward you with a great many blessings. That is the truly wonderful thing about a relationship with Him. He can help you understand what to do. He will give you the insight into what the possibilities are. Some people who do not believe may say that prayer is a waste of time. They may wonder if there is a God and some believe that there is no God. They believe we are here because it just sort of happened that way. But that, to me, is very naive thinking. You may have heard at one time or another that you get out of something what you put into it. If you don't pray you will find that you are at a loss for blessings that God could give you. You may find out that the more time you spend with your parents and friends, the more they will pay attention to you. So doesn't it stand to reason that the more time you spend with God, the more blessings you may get? Let God be a part of your life and pray that the cure for ailments are discovered so that a lot of lives will be saved. Make your contribution to society by making a difference and praying often to God for the insight into how you can make a difference in other people's lives. It just may be the most rewarding experience that you have ever had. Prayer: Thank you Lord, for all your many resources that you have put on earth. This is a true blessing. Please give us the insight into how to understand our surroundings and to understand our place in those surroundings. Help us to find our true calling, Lord. And thank you for all your many blessings. Amen. Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
