The Teachings of Christ are our Street Maps

April 11, 2004 | Link To Us | Index | This sermon is for your spiritual edification and to spread a little hope and cheer. Matthew 27-28

Time for the Easter egg hunts and the bunnies and the chocolate. This what Easter is to a lot of people. But what Easter really is about is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is a time to think of life anew. Eggs represent a new life so that may represent a little more than bunnies what Easter is all about.

It is a time to start thinking about throwing off all the old ways and start thinking about following the teachings of Jesus and make our lives in such a way so that we spend more time with God and make Him a better part of our life.

When we think of things anew we can think of the freshness of a new spring. A time when flowers are a bloom (at least for places in this world where Spring is a time for flowers). It is a time to look at nature and see the creation that God has blessed us with. This timeless beauty is a sign from God that He loves us and cares for us and wants to realize that there are many new beginnings in our lives.

The older we get, the more we can appreciate the newness of things. When things are fresh such as fruits and vegetables, they usually taste better. These things are blessings from God. He gives us these things because He knows that we can see his love through these things.

In this day and age when people are afraid of all the things that this world has bombarded us with such as 9/11, and the other terrorists happenings and the widespread problems they have caused our planet. But when you really think about it we can feel afraid of a anything we think we are afraid of. And that is not the way to live life. You can't go through life looking at every situation as being a place of discontent and fear. Because if you do you start to think about other bad things and then fear balloons in your mind like some giant volcano that has just erupted and is spewing ashes all over your world.

When Jesus was resurrected it told us that God loves us and He wants us to always believe that there is hope. Hope for today and hope for tomorrow. Do not let what happened yesterday deter you from thinking about how life could be in your future if you will only believe in God and what He can give to you with His love and His understanding.

But in order for us to have that fresh new beginning in our lives we need to spend more time fellowshipping with God and ask Him for His blessings on our lives. Ask God for guidance. Don't let another day go by without accepting God into your life. He will bless you and He will help you when you need it.

But make sure that when you do pray that you also listen to what God has to say. Give Him your time. And make this Easter a time of great joy and hope so that your lives will be better because of it.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for all the many blessings that you have given me thus far in this year. Help me to realize that Easter is a sign of a new beginning in life. And God thank you for your Son and letting us know that you really care for us throughout the year and always. Amen.

Benediction: Now, Lord, Bless us in our daily lives. Help us to smell the roses whenever possible, to shine our light on those less fortunate than us, and lead us in the path we should go. For you are the light that keeps our path well lit. Help us to follow it, until we meet you, in a land where milk and honey abound, a place where our most wonderful dreams are fulfilled. Amen.
